I highly recommend visiting Virtual Trials, a site specifically dealing with the treatments of brain tumors. Newly diagnosed patients and first time visitors should begin with their Brain Tumor Guide and then move on to their Survivor Stories and their Noteworthy Treatments Section pages.

National level groups you should consider contacting are The National Brain Tumor Foundation, The Brain Tumor Society, and The American Brain Tumor Association.

I would also consider joining the BrainTmr Mailing List. The amount of email traffic on a daily basis on the list can be quite daunting at times. However, the list is an invaluable resource for not only medical knowledge, but for tackling the practical day-in-and-day-out brain tumor survivor issues, and for providing an emotional shoulder to lean on.

I also highly recommend at some point you get a consultation from a leading brain tumor center. The research I've done (primarily by participating on the previously mentioned email list) indicated the three best centers in the USA for treating brain tumors are:

  1. The Brain Tumor Center at Duke in North Carolina

  2. MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas

  3. The Brain Tumor Research Center at UCSF in San Francisco

As you see after reading the other pages of this site, I decided to consult with Duke due to the reputation of their top neuro-oncologist, Dr. Henry Friedman, and their location.
